saving my friend's home

My best friend works hard and is a good man. When he found out he had cancer last August, he chose surgery and radiation, both of which seem to have worked. He has an astoundingly good attitude and is working hard to keep his spirits up and his body healthy. However, there was a period of time when he couldn't work and he fell behind with his mortgage payments. His resources are exhausted and I've done all I can to help with my personal finances .... and he's facing foreclosure now. The home is where he grew up. When his mother was ill he took out a mortgage to pay her bills. She died five years ago and now the house is his, but the payments are just too much to keep up with. I don't want to see him lose his family home and be out on the street with cancer. $60,000 would pay everything off completely, but I think that's too much to ask, so I am now just hoping for enough to pay ahead a little and stop the foreclosure. He has enough on his mind trying to run his business and keep himself healthy. Would you please help some? Any amount will be truly welcome.
